and romney who have both demagogued and misrepresented the facts. i do not regard people getting government benefits as moochers. if we do not address it, it will not be long before we are greece. >> the government has to honor its commitments. we need to honor commitments we made our seniors, and that is why i say, let me be clear, no one over the age of 40 should see their benefits cut or their taxes increase. promises were made by government and promises need to be kept. we need to make sure that all happens, and i believe there is bipartisan support to do that. nobody is going to watch social security fail. >> the promises were made to secure the votes of people over 65. since world war ii we have been doing it. it is a $60 trillion unfunded liability, and are we going to solve the problem? will we ignore it? and if we ignore it, god help the united states of america. >> recently at the national convention, republicans called for a constitutional amendment banning all abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest. where do you stand on this proposal and why? >> i trust women to make t

of character, and out. -- character, no. what surprised me in terms of mitt romney is that there are a lot of a genuine interesting stories that you heard about the convention, the people he has helped. but there were a lot that did not get cold. the ones that were told were very serious and heartbreaking. there were a lot of stories about decency, him as a person. they are very interesting. there are decisions on an ongoing basis not to share them in a public way. >> several olympics ago, i was going to cover the event, and he happened to be there in their role of his head of the olympic games. i had never met him before, so we just had a conversation. when i said to him, more than four years ago, there is a lot of talk about your running for president and the person that answer that question was a completely different person than the person that talked about his sudden. -- his son. it is a very interesting dynamic and in a way, sometimes, i found politicians to be the opposite of that. there are politicians, so they are very out there when they are talking about something that is going t

. >>> president barack obama and mitt romney are about to come face-to-face for their first presidential debate. it happens wednesday night in denver. both candidates have been practicing for the event and both campaigns are trying to lower expectations by presenting their candidate as the underdog. while the candidates prepare for the debate, their running mates are courting voters, as well, in critical battleground states. republican paul ryan is in new hampshire and ohio today and vice president joe biden is wrapping up a two-day swing through florida right now. right now, live pictures. he is holding a rally there and talking to supporters in ft. myers. >>> all right, now to a controversy over the legitimacy of voter registrations in florida. an election official in palm beach county tells cnn as many as 106 voter registration applications may be fraudulent containing false information and fake signatures. the applications were turned in by a consulting firm hired by the republican national committee to register voters. the rnc says it has cut ties with that firm. >>> president obama and mi

. and let me explain why. i think the president's going to w but let's assume governor romney won. if he wins, that almost certainly means the republicans will hold on to the house and it will be about 50/50 in the senate, more or less the way it is now. you can't filibuster a budget. it's the only thing that doesn't require 60 votes in the senate to pass o as opposed to 51. so a lot of the policymaking will be pushed into the budget and he'll just have to pick up one or two people on that. if you assume that he is going to do what he said he's going to do, i think a lot of his priorities will be enacted. and i think it will be bad on the budget side, as i said. including for medicare t will drive the medicare trust fund out-- dry up the money by 2016. if what i think is going to happen happens and president obama wins, i think that too will break the logjam for a different reason. as senator mcconnell says their number one goal for the last four years has been denying him a second term. as soon as he gets that, they can't deny him a third term. he can't have one anyway. so i think you w
